The Muslim Brotherhood's spiritual leader in Egypt, Mohammed Badie, has been arrested in Cairo according to security officials.
He had been on the run since a violent crackdown last week on Muslim Brotherhood protests.
A state of emergency remains in force across Egypt and nearly 1000 people are thought to have died since authorities began clearing supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi from protest camps.
