Thousands of people have gathered in Manchester for the funeral of one of the two policewomen who were killed in a gun and grenade attack last month.
The funeral of 23 year old Nicola Hughes, who was killed alongside her 32 year old colleague Fiona Bone, has taken place at Manchester Cathedral.
Members of the public joined hundreds of police officers who lined the city centre in silence to await the funeral cortege, applause broke out as it passed.
A man handed himself into police shortly after the fatal attack, which prompted renewed debate about routinely arming Britain's police and came amid concern about Manchester's gangland violence.
The Chief Constable of the Greater Manchester force, Sir Peter Fahy, paid tribute to Ms Hughes.
